EXCAVATOR received Excellence in Technology Transfer award.

Subject: 2003 Federal Laboratory Consortium Awards of Excellence in Technology Transfer

It is my pleasure to officially announce that the Federal Laboratory Consortium (FLC) will award at its National meeting on May 5-9, 2003 in Tucson, Arizona all four technology nominations from ORNL for this year's Excellence in Technology Transfer category.

For ORNL, this is most significant considering this year only a total of twenty-two technology nominations will be recognized nationwide for approximately 700 federal laboratories.

These awards recognize laboratory employees who have accomplished outstanding work in the process of transferring a technology developed by a federal laboratory to the commercial marketplace.  This speaks highly of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and is an indication that these technologies along with their scientific and technology transfer achievements are truly of the highest caliber.

Recognized from ORNL is the winner for the "Excellence in Technology Transfer Award" with the submittal "Automated Image Retrieval System for Semiconductor Yield Improvement."

The individuals to be recognized for this award are Regina Ferrell, Shaun Gleason, Bruce Jatko, Tom Karnowski, Ken Tobin and Bobby Whitus.

Also to be recognized from ORNL is the winner for "Excellence in Technology Transfer Award" with the submittal "Carbon Composite Bipolar Plate."

The individuals to be recognized for this award are Ted Besmann, Tim Burchell, John Henry, Jr., and James Klett.

Also to be recognized from ORNL are the winners for "Excellence in Technology Transfer Award" with the submittals "Expression Data Clustering Analysis and Visualization Resource (EXCAVATOR)."

The individuals to be recognized for this award are Dong Xu, Ying Xu and Victor Olman.

And also to be recognized from ORNL are the winners for "Excellence in Technology Transfer Award" with the submittals "ASAP: Any Source, Any Position Fluid-Handling Device."

The individuals to be recognized for this award are Mitch Doktycz and Steven Hicks.

Specific instructions will follow for the awards ceremony at the National FLC meeting.  It is requested that at least one member of each team attend to personally accept the award.

Once again, congratulations and I look forward to seeing ORNL's people and technologies recognized in Tucson on May 5-9, 2003.

One final note, a special thanks to the FLC Awards Committee who assisted in the evaluation, critique, preparation and submission of the nominations:  Gary Alley, Mitch Doktycz, Cheryl Edwards, Phil King, Walter Koncinski, and Mark Reeves.
